Mountaineering Course
Our roped scrambling and mountaineering course is a comprehensive and practical course for those looking to develop the skills to tackle scrambles and easier climbs in the mountains. Placing traditional climbing gear & managing roped pitches while on technial mountian along with building sound anchors are essential mountaineering skills. We cover these over a practical course covering the essntials on a mountian route.
Prices & Dates
We deliver all summer roped guiding & instruction from April to the end of October.
- £290 per day for 1 participant
- £310 per day for 2 participants
- Highland Guides Ratio 1 guide to 2 participants for all roped scrambling guiding & instruction.
Availible throughout the summer please just specify your dates on the booking form.
Course detail
This is a course for those looking to get to grips with roped mountaineering. A practical course deliverd on the hill while scrambling. We cover essential areas:
- Route choice and selection
- Belaying & knots
- understanding traditional protection
- anchor selection
- gear placement
- self protected abseiling
- Escape and problem solving

- Qualified, insured and first aid trained Instructor
We provide essential equipment in your cost
- Harness
- Helmet
- Belay plate, screwgate & sling
- All ropes, hardware and guidebooks
Mountain llothing and climbing shoes are not included. We have a detailed kit list on our website and are more than happy to help with any questions you may have.
All safety equipment, such as navigation, group shelters and first aid kits, will be supplied by the instructor including a Garmin in reach with all Highland Guides teams.
