Intro Rock Climbing

Our introductory rock climbing courses are aimed at those who would like to get going with traditional leader placed protected rock climbs. This course is for those who wish to develop their understanding of traditional climbing and understanding equipment and systems of safe climbing. This course is also ideal for those who are making the move from indoor rock climbing to real rock. We also cover an understanding of grades, climbing styles and other associated techniques and topics. 

Prices & Dates

We deliver all summer rock climbing instruction & guiding from April to the end of October.

  • £290 per day for 1 participant 
  • £310 per day for 2  participants
  • Highland Guides Ratio 1 guide to 2 participants for roped rock climbing instruction.

Course detail

This is an introductory climbing course for those looking to develop the skills for tradiaonal UK rock climbing. We cover a variety of skills all practically at the crag. Key skills areas covered are: 

  • Climbing technique 
  • Tying & knots 
  • Belaying 
  • Seconding traditional climbs 
  • Tying into an anchor 
  • Understanding traditional protection 
  • Removing protection 
  • Understanding Guide books, Topos and grades 
  • Abseiling 

Whats included in the cost?

  • Qualified, insured and first aid trained Instructor 

We provide essential equipment in your cost

  • Harness 
  • Helmet
  • Belay plate, screwgate & sling 
  • All ropes, hardware and guidebooks 

Clothing and climbing shoes are not included, but with some advance notice on the booking form we may be able to arrange rock shoes. 

All safety equipment, such as group shelters and first aid kits, will be supplied by the instructor including a Garmin in reach with all Highland Guides teams.
