SCRAMBLING COURSE
This course is designed for hillwalkers transitioning to more technical terrain, where the use of a rope is essential for both ascent and descent. As hillwalking evolves into graded scrambling or easier rock climbing, a rope provides the security and confidence needed to tackle more challenging and consequential ground. The UK’s mountains are renowned not only for superb hillwalking but also for outstanding scrambling opportunities. Iconic ridges like Liatach, An Teallach, the Aonach Eagach, and the famous Cuillin Ridge often require a rope to safeguard difficult sections.
The course covers key skills such as belaying, using traditional protection to secure pitches, building reliable anchors, route selection, and understanding pitched climbing. We will also focus on essential techniques such as abseiling and retreating safely. Rope management, including taking coils, is integrated throughout the course.
This is a hands-on, practical course set in a real mountain environment, where we’ll practice skills and make decisions in the field.
Included in the course cost, we provide a harness, helmet, and belay plate. We also supply all the necessary hardware, ropes, a first aid kit, and other mountain safety equipment. A complete kit list is available on our website, and we’re happy to assist with any questions you may have.
